Dr Ying Kuan

Originally from Malaysia, I attended Queens University in Belfast qualifying in 1993. I trained first as a junior doctor in Northern Ireland, including in renal medicine at Belfast City Hospital before completing my higher training in Sheffield, England.

I have been a Consultant Nephrologist in the Western Trust since 2006. I am currently the Clinical Lead for the Service, and an Associate Medical Director.

I have been involved in increasing patient participation in care including with Share-HD, and in shared decision making. I am passionate about ensuring holistic well-being of patients with chronic conditions, including for Psychological care.

My research interest includes Chronic Kidney Disease, Acute Kidney Injury and importance of Patient reported measures as clinical outcomes.

Away from work, I am passionate about family, cycling and the joys that pet ownership brings to life.
