I spent 18 years attending the Belfast City Hospital and another two at Antrim Area Hospital with Kidney disease. Over that period my kidney function declined

I first learnt of Northern Ireland Kidney Patients Association during a spell in the Belfast City Hospital in level 11 waiting for my operation to prepare me for dialysis.

Less than a year later I received a kidney transplant and have been doing great ever since. I will be forever thankful to my donors family for making the very difficult decision to donate their loved ones organs. Their kindness has giving me the chance to live a normal life.

I attended one of NIKPA Annual General Meetings and the following year I went along to a NIKPA Committee meeting and have been volunteering since then. A great group of people providing a much appreciated, worthwhile support network to renal patients, their families and carers
